How Does an Outpatient Drug Rehab Work?

Outpatient Drug Rehab offers the flexibility of receiving treatment while maintaining a day to day schedule.

What Is An Outpatient Drug Rehab?

An outpatient drug rehab offers individuals, who struggle with an addiction, the ability to seek treatment while maintaining their day to day schedules. You can schedule meetings with a licensed physician throughout the week. The amount of days will also vary from individual and the severity of their addiction.

There are also different types of outpatient rehab programs.

They offer different types of services and different levels of intensity. While
you have the benefit of going back home or to work, it does require a strong-willed person to stay committed in attending.

Outpatient Drug Rehab Programs

If you are looking at attending an outpatient drug rehab, you should be aware of the different types of programs. The level of care can vary for each individual. An assessment from a licensed clinical professional will determine which level of care you will need.

Day Programs

In an outpatient day program, you are committing to the highest level of care. You will be meeting with a clinical professional anywhere from 5 to 7 days a week roughly about 6 hours a day.

During treatment, you will participate in individual and group counseling, and other therapies that will help you recover.

You will still be able to go back home after a day of
treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

After completing day treatment, an individual can step down
to IOP. With IOP, an individual can receive up to 4 hours of treatment. Depending on the severity of the addiction or the substance, you will meet with a clinical professional anywhere between 3 to 6 days per week.

Similar to a day program, you will be participating in individual and group counseling along with other therapies.

Continuum of Care

After IOP, a less intensive program of outpatient care is recommended to continue developing relapse prevention skills. Whenever possible an individual should seek a treatment facility that offers 12-Step and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
